So I recently downloaded OG Vietcong from archive .org (vc starter 1.7 beta) and everything works flawlessly and it's exactly the very same game from my childhood (yeah, 1st fps ever, what a blast!). EXEPT from one tiny detail: the main menu soundtrack is... "Fortunate Son"! I get the iconicity of the track and I get the "meme" too, but it just doesn't match the general feeling of the game, not as much as the original Pseudo Hendrix at least - along with the jungle sounds in the background.
How can I get the OST back? Every other in game music is right on point as far as I recall, but Fortune Son keeps on rocking every time the main menu pops up... "VI SAO?"

I'm playing Standard and the intro music I'm looking for is exactly the first one you linked (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAcfYGkg56Q), but I can clearly remember there used to be more ambient jungle-like sounds after this one guitar riff. I'm just looking for the original menu soundtrack, just like it was back in 2003-release!

Your problem with Fortunate Son may be caused by an addon or a bad map that changes the game.
I'll explain it right away.
After starting the game, the files from CBF (also from downloaded maps) are loaded alphabetically.
If a file with the same name is included somewhere in the map or addon, the last one in alphabetical order will overwrite the original.
I created a Z.CBF package. It contains SND\MUSIC\MENU.OGG (original).
I named it Z so that it loads last.
Just unpack the RAR and put Z.CBF in the VIETCONG directory.
I won't hesitate to add a version with Adagio for Strings (from the movie Platoon) here. But it's pretty quiet.

As a Christmas bonus, I have a few more songs for you to add to the MENU.
Just extract the RAR archive, copy the cbf to your VIETCONG\ directory. If you want to remove it, just delete Z_xxx.cbf and restart the game.
It will load the original song again.

I really appreciate your work, and thanks to you I found a "WOLF SND.CBF" file that was causing me the alternative menu soundtrack. I just had to move that outside the Vietcong directory to bring back the original Pseudo Hendrix!
