How to fix the sound problem with Windows 7 OS
Silent Bob
You have successfully installed Vietcong on your PC runnning Windows 7 but it always crashes after the settings screen?

Well, thats most likely the W7 sound bug.

Here is a short tuturial how to fix that problem:

Step 1:

Check the "disable sounds" checkbox in the settings dialog and start Vietcong.

When Viecong starts up normally continue with Step 2, otherwise its not the "sound bug"

Step 2:

Right click on the little speaker icon bottom right hand corner of the screen, then click Sounds

Click on the Recording tab

You will most likely see this picture

Right click on empty space and click "Show disabled devices"

It should look like this

If you cant see the Stereomix at all continue with Step 3, otherwise continue with Step 4.

Step 3:

Windows 7 is a good OS but it installs not all drivers you need. Especially the sound drivers are not installed correctly when you upgrade your OS.

Most PC´s have a Realtek soundchip so you need to download and install the latest driver.
At the moment i am writing this tuturial the newest driver is R2.67

Download the driver, install it and restart the Computer.
Then continue with Step 4.

Hint: if you are not sure where to download the drivers for your system, there are some tools in the web that can assist you.
I only list one of them called "Driver Genius" but a simple search on the net will bring good results.

Step 4:

If you see the Stereo mixer as disabled, right click it and enable it.

Then it should look like this

Now you can start Vietcong and it should start without any problems.

Thanks

I had that problem with editor with windows 8. Game was probably fixed with VCStarter.
I just enabled it without driver update, restarted PC and it is working.
