Weather changing (sky light)?
Intruder
Hi,

I was "studying" some solo missions from the Campaign and noticed a cool feature we may have never used in our maps... A "live" change of the sky light! Have you ever heard of it?

The solo mission in question is Radio Relay. Just when the Huey lands on the relay, the sky is still rather clear, but once the first trip flares light the sky, the light starts to become much darker! We are so taken by the action that we (I) never really noticed that before but it would be really cool if we can use such a feature in our maps!

Have you never found informations about such an edition because I haven't...?

----------------------------------

I also noticed in a video of the same mission (posted on YouTube at 15:48>16:10) that the AI mates have like "mud splashes" under the boots when they walk on the relay ground. I re-played the mission to check myself but saw nothing.

So, it seems that:
- On the video we can see the "mud splashes" and hear a "spounge sound" when the player walks/runs.
- With my test, I see NO "mud splashes" and hear a "dry sound" when I walk/run.

I'm wondering if there is an option "somewhere" to set this effect with the ground...?

I found it from SDK few years ago VC
void SC_SetSceneVisibilityMult(float vis_mult, float scene_fog_mult, float bckg_fog_mult);

This function will change the multipliers applied to the scene visibility settings.
Vis_mult is multiplier of the maximum visibility, scene_fog_mult and bckg_fog_mult are used to set the the fog and background fog.

This command was with few bugs for me but maybe it was because of my testmap.

and second command:
void SC_SwitchSceneSCS(char *fname, float time);

This function will fade the scene visual settings to the settings stored in the file fname in the time time.

This command is better but problem was with proper *.SCS file. We can save SCS with editor but its looks little different version and that command don't work with SCS what is created with editor .
So in maps is some older SCS files and those was working. Then I break those files and made simple program what make proper SCS file for that command. (its maybe not user friendly but its working for me)

I must go now, will continue later.

parameters in SCS file:
- world fog (on/off)
- world fog color (RGB )
- world fog start distance
- world fog end distance
- background fog (on/off)
- background fog color (RGB )
- background fog start distance
- background fog end distance
- scene visibility

Those commands must be called from every client PC and that mean there must be synchronization.
Second command cant use with long time parameter, because then players who join later will see different settings.
Example if you want to change settings during 10 min. then its reasonable to split that time and change step by step.

I tested those commands few years ago and don't remember all details.

I will update my test script and make a testmap for you, then we will know how we can use it.

SCS files on VC1:
version 1 ( 76 bytes )
LEVELS\NVA_BASE\NVA_BASE STANDART.SCS
LEVELS\NVA_BASE\RANO.SCS
LEVELS\NVA_BASE\RANODIRT.SCS
LEVELS\NIGHT\NOC MODRA.SCS

version 2 ( 84 bytes )
LEVELS\RADIORELAY\NOCNI NASTAVENI.SCS

version 3 ( 72 bytes ) NOT working with "SC_SwitchSceneSCS" command
files created with editor
With editor you can save only one area (world, backgroud or sector) data but version 1 and 2 save world and background data to same file. Thats why its not working with "SC_SwitchSceneSCS" command.
Ando attached the following file:
some_scs_files.rar [298 Bytes, 504 Downloads]
