Vietcong 1.60
argo
Hi
It is Vietcong ver: 1.60,
computer data Windows 7, RAM 8GB, 64bit,
The game worked multiplayer all the time, and there were no problems, but if I started again the game in multiplayer it did not find any game servers.
I have tried many times, and if i push to the multiplayer and internet, the game runs out for 30sec before it goes to the server window. And this window is all empty, it says servers and players in the list 0. It doesn´t show me any error.
Can anybody say what is the problem and how can I solve it? I have nothing downloaded to the game

Thank you

First of all my friend the Vietcong "in-game" server list had been provided by "Gamespy" who, as of July 25, 2014 ceased their server operations and service. This is why you see no servers in your list. To Fix this problem there are several remedies below. Choose the one which is easiest for you at this time.

OPTION A. To get an "IN-GAME" server list not provided by options B or C below follow these steps:

1) First, make sure you log on to your computer with Administrator privileges. Secondly, Access the directory--C: Windows\system32\drivers\etc (Here you will find the file “hosts”). Open this file with Notepad. Then copy and paste the following lines to the end of the "hosts" file:

65.112.87.186 battlefield2.ms14.gamespy.com #battlefield 2
65.112.87.186 bfvietnam.ms0.gamespy.com #battlefield vietnam
65.112.87.186 bfvietnam.master.gamespy.com #battlefield vietnam
65.112.87.186 gpcm.gamespy.com #gamespy login session tracking
65.112.87.186 master.gamespy.com
65.112.87.186 master0.gamespy.com
65.112.87.186 halor.ms6.gamespy.com #halo
65.112.87.186 swbfront2pc.ms6.gamespy.com #star wars battlefront 2
65.112.87.186 vietcong2.master.gamespy.com #vietcong
65.112.87.186 vietcong2.ms1.gamespy.com #vietcong
65.112.87.186 wolfmaster.idsoftware.com #rtcw

2) Click on File Save (saves the "hosts" file with additions/changes). Do not save it as a .txt file. Changing the file type will render the file useless.

3) Start-up Vietcong and access the in-game server list. Servers should all be there (approx.. 45 servers).

That’s all there is to it. Also, this file change will not affect your computer operation as the primary function for this file is to redirect “OLD” url/IP to a “New url/IP, as in this case, Old Gamespy IP to Qtracker’s IP. In most cases your host file is not even being used nor has it been modified.

OPTION B. Go to Web site "Vietcong1.eu" --- There you will find a list of servers and how to join the server.

OPTION C. Go to web site Qtracker.com --- Download the free software. It will detect your Vietcong installation and will also provide the same list of servers as Vietcong1.eu above and instructions on how to join.

Thank you for answering, but it seems to be one more problem. I have home computer and I should be andministrator for this computer, and seems to be that I can make changes, but it doesn´t let me make changes, it says that I have not administrators rights.....
Checkmark is in this palce where I can make changes but it doesn´t let me change anything. The Notepad allows save it only with text file and do not give me any othere options.
Do I have to make here any marks before file name
e.g
65.112.87.186 battlefield2.ms14.gamespy.com #battlefield 2
65.112.87.186 bfvietnam.ms0.gamespy.com #battlefield vietnam
Do I have to mark it like this, e.g
# 65.112.87.186 battlefield2.ms14.gamespy.com #battlefield 2
# 65.112.87.186 bfvietnam.ms0.gamespy.com #battlefield Vietnam,
because in Notepad othere files has this mark "#" before file name
???

Argo, you can try downloading http://vietcong1....racker.bat and running it as administrator (right-click on the file and choose "Run as administrator", see http://www.sevenf...rator.html). That's it, your in-game list should work then. If it doesn't, try visiting Vietcong.Info's TeamSpeak (see the left menu), someone might help you there.

No. do not put # in front of lines. It will see the line as a comment instead of a command.

One other trick you may try......Right Click on the "hosts" file and rename it as "hosts1". Make changes to file then save it. Next, right click on "hosts1" and rename it back to "hosts". This worked for me on a remote computer I was having same problem.

Not sure why your administrator privileges are not working. Under "user accounts" in control panel make sure it is checked "computer administrator". If above doesn't work try creating another user and assign and log on as administrator.
